What should I believe in?

Name: David

Born: 1996 in Bethlehem, now lives in Jerusalem

Occupation: Photographer, Guitar player

Photographer: Shany Dahan

David felt a conflict of faith since he was a child and did not know which religion was his. He was born in Bethlehem in the Palestinian Territories. His parents were from Chile and came to Israel as dancers; his father was Jewish and his mother was Protestant. Neither of them had an Israeli citizenship. David was in an Arab-Christian nursery and still remembers how they celebrated Christmas and Channukah in family. As he spoke Spanish with his parents he had great difficulties in school. He had to repeat school years several times because he spoke little Hebrew. The first time he felt at home was in Chile, the homeland of his parents. He understood the language and Chilean culture was familiar to him, although he had never lived there. Today David lives in Jerusalem and does not feel that he belongs there. He is at home in his art and his creativity and feels like himself when he spends his nights designing new projects. David still hopes that he will find his home geographically as well.
